Coming Soon…. Race Round The World

Date: 20th Oct 2020 Author: Chorlton Scouts

Back in the spring, we joined forces to hike to the moon (and back!), raising a gravity-defying sum of over £350,000 for good causes.

Now, we’re asking every one of you to join us on a second mission, orbiting a little closer to home.

This time, it’s all about Scouts helping Scouts, racing round the world to raise money for fellow UK groups who need a helping hand.

COVID-19 Is The Biggest Crisis We’ve Faced In A Generation

Over 500 of our groups – many of them based in communities that were already made vulnerable before the virus hit – are struggling.

If these groups close, thousands of young people will miss out on all the life-changing skills and experiences being a Scout can bring, precisely when they need us most.

That’s why we’re calling all Scouts (and the people who care about them) to join us in a sponsored, virtual Race Round the World.

The Rules Are Simple:

This autumn, we’re asking all Scouts and their leaders to sign up and join one of four teams:

  1. Beavers and their leaders
  2. Cubs and their leaders
  3. Scouts and their leaders
  4. Explorers, Network members and their leaders (plus all our volunteers not in a section role)

Every young person and volunteer will travel a mile or more locally, get sponsored and contribute their miles to their team’s grand total.

Chief Scout Bear Grylls will start the race and each team will be led by two of our amazing ambassadors (with details on who these are, and when the race will start, to be shared in the next few weeks!).

Together, we’re aiming for each team to travel the equivalent distance of 25,000 miles round the world, racing to raise at least £300,000 for groups who need our help along the way.

You Can Take Part In The Race However You Like And Wherever You Are

Walk, run, pogo, cycle – even canoe.

Or, if you’d like to do your miles another way, that’s great, too!

The world is your oyster, and the race is open to all.

We’re working on some great new resources – with plenty of safe, international-themed programme ideas to help volunteers and young people step up to the challenge.

So, however you decide to do things, you’ll have the chance to learn some new skills and earn some shiny new badges along the way.

Because, whatever the weather, Scouts stick together.

Even when we’re (two metres) apart.

We’ll see you at the starting line…

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
