Virtual Scouting For Young People With SEND

123rd Manchester Scouts prides itself on being a welcoming and inclusive group, but we know that there a large number of young people out there who cannot access a mainstream scout group due to SEND or additional needs. Infinity is a new virtual service designed to allow these young people to access the scout association programme from home.

We are of course based in Manchester, but Infinity Members can live anywhere in the UK! Membership is £9 per month and allows our virtual scouts to earn badges supported by a parent or carer at home.

How does it work?

To Join infinity, order a welcome Pack HERE

A Member of our team will contact you to confirm your details, and which of our sections would be the most appropriate.

A Few days later your young person will receive their welcome pack in the post.

Parents will get access to our online portal – Online Scout Manager which will enable you to see all the badges available to you and upload evidence to claim any you work at – Members can receive up to 3 badges every month.

FAQ

Who is infinity for?

Infinity Scouts is open to young people aged 4-11 who cannot access a mainstream scout group for any reason.

How Flexible is infinity?

Our goal at infinity is to build confidence in young people, We want them to earn badges and be proud of their achievements! As such we will work with our members and their parents or carers to adapt any badge requirements to suit the abilities of individual young people

How Long is a membership?

We hope infinity will work for you and you’ll want to stay with us and progress through the sections, but you’re not contracted to any minimum term. You can cancel at any point.

What does it cost?

We charge a £15 membership fee which includes a welcome pack which includes an Infinity Group Necker (scarf), a woggle and your first badge. After that we charge £9 per month

Do I need a uniform?

That’s up to you, Scouts is a uniformed organisation but the virtual nature of Infinity means you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We want our members to feel part of the family of scouting so all members will be issued with a group Necker (scarf) which you can wear while doing your scouting activities. If you would like a uniform, or other branded merchandise you can buy it HERE.

How do badges work?

That depends on what works for you, you can work through them one at a time, or can do little bits from different badges. Any badges completed by the 20th of a Month will be included in that month’s badge mail out. Each member can claim up to 3 badges each month.

My Child is academically behind which section should they join?

The Scout programme is made up of a number of sections – Squirrel Scouts was designed for ages 4-6, Beavers for 6-8 and Cubs 8-10.5. If your child is working at a level below their actual age it’s totally fine for them to enrol in a younger section. In a typical scout group young people will move up to the next section when they reach the right age. At Infinity you can decide when you’re ready to move up a section.

About Infinity

Infinity was created by the leadership team of 123rd Manchester because a number of us are parents of Children with SEND, some have been able to access scouting with us, but some haven’t. Scout Halls are often loud, crowded places and not ideal environment for everyone. With infinity we wanted to give every child the opportunity to earn badges, celebrate success and be a part of something.

In time we hope to expand Infinity to include periodic activities, events and day camps around the country.
